Frank, Firefighter, Working at the Epicenter of COVID-19, Queens, NY

“Carla,

What you’re doing is huge! Maybe what we talk about helps somebody, and if you’ve helped one person, you’ve done your job. It’s my pleasure and my honor to be part of this.

It’s an outlet for me to talk about it, because, to be honest, I don’t really talk about these things very often. We kind of desensitize, and we think everything’s fine. This is also good for me. Thank you so much for letting me do so.

I was in an incident years ago where I got trapped. I literally had to make that decision in my head and say to myself, ‘wow, this could be it right here, right now.’ That’s part of the job.

As firefighters, we are family to each other. We love each other a lot. We’ve been there through the best parts of our lives and the worst parts.

At the end of the day, it’s not race, it’s not color, it’s not creed; we’re human beings and we need to stop this, some how, some way.”
